Congratulations to University of Utah biomedical engineering student Sarthak Tiwari, who was named a semifinalist for the national Fulbright award, one of 11 U students to be named for 2023-24.

Tiwari will be graduating with honors from the U at the end of this semester with a bachelor’s in biomedical engineering. Through the Fulbright award, he is seeking a master’s degree in molecular genetics at the University of Toronto. He wants to focus his research on using artificial intelligence to advance the field of genomics and personalized medicine.

“My long-term goal is a Ph.D. in bioinformatics where I can then pursue a career as an academic professor,” he said. “I want to continue utilizing novel matching learning and computational approaches to improve our understanding of disease and in the aid in treatments.”

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is the largest U.S. exchange program offering opportunities for students and young professionals to undertake international graduate study, advanced research, university teaching and primary and secondary school teaching worldwide. The program currently awards approximately 1,900 grants annually in all fields of study and operates in more than 140 countries worldwide.
