Scholarship Opportunities
Freshman are students who will have graduated from high school and have not enrolled in another college or university after high school graduation.
Only students who were selected to receive a scholarship will be notified.
John and Marcia Price College of Engineering Merit Scholarships– Students who apply to the University of Utah by December 1 will automatically be considered for College of Engineering Merit Based scholarship. No further application is necessary.
This scholarship is available to all majors and students do not have to submit a conditional application because the college reviews the student general admissions application to make selections.
David Jorgensen Scholarship – This renewable first-year scholarship is funded by the David G. and Annette T. Jorgensen Family Foundation, David (BS ECE ’61) and Annette Jorgensen (BS ED ’61), to support and encourage engineering students in completing their degrees. A needs-based scholarship which asks you to address two questions: 1. Using as much of your personal and academic backgrounds as you feel comfortable, provide a one-page essay explaining the financial challenges and difficulties that have impacted you. 2. What role do you feel entrepreneurialism should play in our society?
Available to incoming first-year students pursing a degree in Biomedical, Chemical, Civil, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Construction Engineering, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Software Development.

To apply: Freshman who would like to be considered for need-based scholarships must demonstrate need by completing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Then visit Scholarship Universe, fill out the general University of Utah Scholarship application (indicate interest in the College of Engineering), fill out the College of Engineering Application, and then search for the “David Jorgensen Scholarship.”
To apply: Visit Scholarship Universe, fill out the general University of Utah Scholarship application (indicate interest in the Price College of Engineering), and then search for the Electrical and Computer Engineering Transfer Scholarship.
Transfer students are those who have completed 30 credit hours or more at another university or college after high school graduation.
John and Marcia Price College of Engineering Merit Scholarships –Students who apply to the University of Utah by December 1 will automatically be considered for Price College of Engineering Merit Based scholarship. No further application is necessary.
If transfer students wish to be considered for department-level scholarships, they will need to complete the Price College of Engineering general scholarship application in Scholarship Universe by February 8th.
A current student is one that has been enrolled in the University of Utah for one or more semesters consistently as an undergraduate student. If it has been less than one year since you last enrolled, then you may still be eligible for scholarships without applying for readmission. Matriculated undergraduate students are eligible to register for classes for one year from the term of their last enrollment.
A current student who submits a John and Marcia Price College of Engineering scholarship application by February 8th will automatically be considered for department and college level awards.
Students who are in the BS/MS program, will not be eligible for scholarships once they begin the graduate career as a master’s student.
Students who are seeking a second bachelor’s degree will not be eligible for college level awards, and should check with the department to see if they would still be eligible for department level scholarships.
To be considered for need-based scholarships, students must demonstrate need by completing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Current students who are selected to receive a scholarship will be notified by June 30th.

Scholarship Opportunities
Most Price College of Engineering (PCE) scholarships are now routed through a single application: “PCE General Scholarships”. Through this application, you will be reviewed for up to 290 scholarships across the college and departments. To be considered for need-based scholarships, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

PCE Merit Scholarships – Incoming freshmen who apply to the University of Utah* by December 1st are automatically considered for Price College of Engineering (PCE) merit-based scholarships. No separate application is required. Selected students will be notified of their offers between April and July.
David Jorgensen Scholarship – This renewable, need-based scholarship is funded by the David G. and Annette T. Jorgensen Family Foundation, David (BS ECE ’61) and Annette Jorgensen (BS ED ’61) to support engineering students in completing their degrees. It is available to incoming first-year students in any of the engineering majors* and requires essay responses. Transfer students have graduated from high school, have previously attended a regionally accredited college or university, and have not yet completed a bachelor’s degree. Credit hours earned while in high school do not count, so those students should see the Incoming First-Year Students tab.

PCE Emergency Funds
If you are a current PCE student experiencing a significant or unforeseen financial hardship, you may apply for our emergency funding scholarships. These funds are for students nearing graduation and experiencing significant financial hardship. Applications are accepted year-round, but funds are limited. Applications are reviewed for Summer, Fall, and Spring semesters. Students must complete the FAFSA to be eligible for consideration.
PCE Student Loans Eligibility
- You must be a United States citizen or permanent resident in theS.
- You must be at the sophomore level or an enrolled graduate student in good standing in a PCE department at the time of application.
- Selection is based on your achievements and interest in earning an engineering and/or computer science degree.
- Students who receive aid through the Financial Aid Office are eligible, unless their unmet need has been maximized.
Financial Support: Loans range from $1,000 to $10,000 per academic year, with a lifetime maximum of $20,000. Funds may be used for expenses related to an engineering education.
Repayment begins nine months after graduation or withdrawal from a Price College of Engineering program, whichever comes first. Interest accrues at 5% starting when repayment begins. The payoff period is no longer than ten years, depending on the loan amount, deferments, and exceptions made by the Board of Directors.

- Complete the Self-Certification Form. You will need to know your cost of attendance and estimated financial assistance.
- Submit the Loan Application and Self-Certification Form, along with the following documents:
- Resume
- Transcript
- Memo describing your education goals and reason for loan request
- Two academic references (names and email addresses only)
- Graduation plan from your department advisor

Student Affairs Scholarship Support Hub (SASSH) connects students to Student Affairs scholarships through personalized one-on-one support. Applications open each year on December 1st and close February 28th on Scholarship Universe Read about available scholarships to see what you are eligible for before applying.
The Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid helps students secure and manage funding, including federal aid, grants, loans, work-study, and institutional scholarships.
PCE scholarships are awarded through two types of applications: auto-match and optional essay.
Auto-match scholarships: Complete the PCE General Scholarships application in Scholarship Universe, and the system will automatically match you to the scholarships you qualify for.
Optional essay scholarships: These are not matched automatically and require you to answer additional questions or short essays. You can answer them in the Optional Essays section of the PCE General Scholarships application, or in the application for an individual scholarship. Optional essays are not required, but completing them lets you be considered for more scholarships.
Step 1: Complete the general Scholarship Universe application
- Log in using your uNID and CIS If this is your first time using the system, you will need to complete the privacy form before logging in.
- Once logged in, a pop-up with application questions will appear. This is the general Scholarship Universe Answer all the questions now, or complete them later under the "Questions" tab in the menu.
- When asked, "Are you interested or active in any of these educational fields?", be sure to select Engineering, along with any other areas of study that apply.
Step 2: Complete the PCE General Scholarships Application.
- Click the "Applications" Under "Ready to Start," scroll to "Price College of Engineering General Scholarships" and open the application.
- On the first page, keep all associated scholarships Scroll down to verify your information, then complete the rest of the application.
- Uploads & Essays: When saving your Degree Audit, personal statement, and resume, do not use punctuation (periods, commas, etc.) in the file name. The system rejects files with punctuation, and reviewers will not be able to open them. Upload PDF files only.
- References: To add an academic reference, click "Add +" and then "Request," and enter your reference writer's information. We recommend that you:
- Set a deadline at least 1–2 weeks before the February 1st application deadline so your writer has enough time to complete the letter.
- Write a personal message that includes a reminder of your connection (for example, "I was in your BME 1010 class in Fall 2023"), what you are applying for, why you are asking for their recommendation, any accomplishments or experiences you would like them to highlight, and a thank-you for their time and support.
- References are due January It is your responsibility to make sure all references are submitted by the deadline, so double-check that each reference's email address is correct. If a reference cannot be submitted on time, you can go back after submitting your application and change your reference.
- Optional Essays: This section contains additional questions for scholarships that are not auto-matched. Answering them is optional, but it allows you to be considered for more scholarships.
- Acknowledgments: Agree to the required information, including the FERPA release, so your scholarship applications can be reviewed.
- Once the entire application is complete, the system will auto-match you to scholarships within the engineering department you qualify This does not mean you will receive a scholarship, only that you meet the basic qualifications to be considered.
Step 3: View and apply to recommended scholarships

- Since this system is shared by the entire University, some scholarships may not apply to you. To narrow the list, click “Filter” at the top of the page and add “College of Engineering” under Organization.

Clicking "View" does not open an application; it shows the scholarship's description and eligibility requirements. Read the requirements carefully (for example, major, GPA, and enrollment) before applying.

Application Instructions
The John and Marcia Price College of Engineering has two types of scholarships from an application perspective; Auto-match scholarships and Optional Essay scholarships.
To be considered for Auto-match scholarships, all you need to do is complete the Price College of Engineering General Application in ScholarshipUniverse. Once submitted, the system will auto-match your application to the scholarships you qualify for.
Optional Essay scholarships are not automatically matched and require short essays or additional questions. After completing the general application, you can browse and choose which Optional Essay Scholarships you would like to apply for. Completing the optional essays is optional but it will maximize your scholarship chances.
Students who want to be considered for need based scholarships in the Price College of Engineering will need to have submitted their FAFSA application by February 1st.
Steps to apply for Scholarships:

Please read the eligibility requirements carefully to make sure you meet the eligibility requirements (e.g., major, GPA, enrollment requirements, and other stated criteria) before applying.
