Director of Engineering, Workspace Safety • Google

Girija Narlikar serves as a Director of Engineering at Google, where she spearheads AI Safety and Security, as well as Abuse Protections for Google Workspace. In this role, she oversees the safety & security for Gemini-powered features across a suite of productivity tools--including Gmail, Drive, and Meet--that supports a global user base of more than 3 billion people.

Her professional background includes leadership roles in machine learning at Instacart, Facebook Messenger, and Google Ads. In the past, Girija co-founded a fintech startup in Mumbai, India, and worked as a distinguished researcher in networking and distributed systems at Bell Labs in Murray Hill, NJ.

Girija holds a PhD from Carnegie Mellon University's School of Computer Science and a BTech in Computer Science from IIT Bombay.
