Exploring Engineering Camp

Audience: 9th-12th grade (girls and boys aged 15-18) Limit: 40

Come learn more about Engineering. This camp is a 3-day camp from 9am-4pm.

Campers get to experience hands-on learning, guest speakers, and tours of lab spaces. Come explore engineering with activities that encourage the use of problem-solving skills. The camp will introduce you to engineering disciplines such as biomedical, chemical, civil, computer, electrical, entertainment arts, materials science, mechanical, and computer science.

Hi-Gear is designed to expose students to a variety of engineering and computer science careers with hands-on experiential learning and collaborative team projects.

Intro to Entertainment Arts and Engineering

What is Entertainment Arts and Engineering?

Learn the secrets behind video games and animation by creating and building characters for games, animation or machinima. Our Entertainment Arts and Engineering Summer Program (EAESP) combines theory with hands-on practical projects, enabling high school students to understand computer graphics at a high level. EAESP introduces 3D modeling, texturing, rigging, animation and rendering concepts via industry-leading software such as Autodesk® Maya® and Adobe® Photoshop®.

Summer Transportation Institute Camp

Audience: 9th grade high school students

Explore engineering in this week-long event dedicated to introducing 9th-grade high school students to the transportation industry. Selected participants will experience hands-on activities while working with the professional researchers and faculty of the University of Utah. Participants will have the opportunity to experience on-campus amenities, guest lectures, attend field trips and explore career opportunities while focusing on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fundamentals.

High School Summer Research Internship


Dates: June 12th – August 4th

Audience: High schoolers who will graduate in 2024 or 2025

Application Deadline: March 17th 

Participants will learn how to conduct academic research, discover different types of engineering, and have the chance to create a project for the Utah Science & Engineering Fair. Students will also participate in workshops focused on subjects like ethics in research, how to write for science, conversations with alumni, and many other interesting topics.

The program will not provide housing for participants.
